Local Clubs

There are a number of local clubs. In no particular order:

Telford Railway Modellers Group

The club started out as the Shropshire Area Group of The N Gauge Society. Meetings took place at members houses with the club layout ‘Bewdley’ having to be set up and taken down every club night. We were in need of a permanent club room so the decision was made to expand the club to everyone (Not just N Gaugers!). The current premises became home and Telford Railway Modellers club was born. The N Gauge group is still an active part of the group with ‘Bewdley’ still on the circuit but we also have active OO and EM groups along with a Junior section. In recent times the club has worked along side BRM magazine to complete and exhibit Stokesay.

Our members meet at our clubroom in Wellington on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Membership costs just £50 per year for adults, £25 for Juniors.

Craven Arms and District Model Railway Circle

Craven Arms and District Model Railway Circle (CADMRC) is a Model Railway Club based in Craven Arms, a town nestled in the pleasant hills of South Shropshire. Meeting most Friday evenings to run trains and have a chat, the club is fortunate to have a large permanent OO gauge layout which represents Craven Arms as the significant junction it was in the 1950s with all its sidings, sheds and the junction to the Central Wales line. Members typically run stock from any region or any era, and the layout is normally operated on conventional DC control. Operation on DCC is sometimes possible when members bring along their own DCC systems however, and our plans are to add a club-owned DCC system to the layout soon to enable regular DCC operation. In addition to this, we have an end-to-end DCC-controlled exhibition layout based on Ashburton in Devon which was generously donated to the club.
The club hosts two exhibitions each year at Ludlow Racecourse. These usually take place over the Saturday of the early May Bank Holiday and a further Saturday in mid-August. The exhibitions and location are well regarded for ease of access and range of displays.

Newtown Model Railway Society

We are a small club and meet at Garthmyl (halfway between Welshpool and Newtown) every Thursday evening between 7pm and 10pm ish. Our club members have interests in N,O, OO and G scale and our current project is a 7mm exhibition layout based on the proposed (never built) spur from the Bishop’s Castle Railway up into Montgomery town.
We host the annual Mid-Wales Model Railway Show in Welshpool at the end of October each year.
If anyone would like to come along to see what we are up to then email me (ian_perrin@hotmail.com) and I’ll give you directions to our clubhouse.

If you are a member of a local club that we’ve missed drop in the shop and let us know.
